"Food for the Body...Nurture for the Soul"
A Mission of Caring

Bread of Life is a volunteer organization serving the hungry, homeless, needy and isolated that brings together 35 churches, synagogues, high schools and community organizations from the north Boston area to offer free evening meals four nights a week, an emergency food pantry, free clothing and grocery delivery to senior citizens in public housing. Bread of Life collaborates with local agencies to help low-income residents obtain counseling, furniture, housing, and financial assistance.

Bread of Life’s food pantry distributed the equivalent of 311,000 meals in 2008. The meal program serves 34,000 meals annually. Recognizing that poverty of the spirit can be more damaging than material poverty, Bread of Life offers a Caring & Sharing support group.

Founded in 1980 and incorporated as a non-profit in 1992, Bread of Life is a local volunteer organization with a long record of outreach and community service. With a mission to feed the poor and hungry, as well as and empower those being served, the organization coordinates more than 500 volunteers each year from its 35 partner organizations drawn from Malden, Medford, Everett, Melrose, Stoneham, Reading and Wakefield.
